Moonstone Holiday Cottage

A Home Away from Home

Garden with raised terrace overlooking wall into Abbey grounds

Moonstone Cottage (1790), in the heart of Glastonbury, England, is your Home Away from Home.

We are situated across the road from the Rural Life Museum, and 4-5 minutes walk from the Chalice Well Gardens and footpaths to the Tor, within walking distance of all attractions and the High Street. A single off-road private parking space is available in front of the cottage.

Rest Assured: Cleanliness guaranteed

We pride ourselves on cleanliness therefore the cottage is shoe-less with slippers provided, or bring your own. We have just completed a rather lengthy renovation project, the cottage is freshly decorated and sympathetically restored. The upstairs has white painted floor boards and rugs, the stairs and lounge are carpeted and the kitchen has an easy clean hard floor.

The conservatory/laundry room has a ceramic tile floor. Ideal for allergy sufferers, the vacuum has advanced Hepa filtration and mattress protector covers are aired between each guest and frequently washed! Pillows and quilts are synthetic. If you prefer 100% cotton sheets, just ask (we use both mixtures and pure cotton ones). We live nearby in Glastonbury and are available at short notice in case of any problem.

Moonstone Cottage has a very special atmosphere, and people say 'it's the sort of place one never wants to leave'.

The wall between the lounge and kitchen was once the boundary of the Abbey grounds. The sofa leans against the original Abbey boundary today. The Victorians extended this row of cottages, added gardens and built a new wall at the end of the garden.

The Norwegian Jotul wood stove is so efficient, it heats up the whole cottage. There is central heating as well. Only seasoned hardwood logs are allowed in the stove. We keep a store of these for sale for your convenience.

The lounge is well equipped to help you relax and unwind easily and includes:

  • Selection of DVDs, books and toys
  • 26" flat screen digital TV with DVD player
  • Digital radio (in kitchen) and CD player
  • Wireless broadband
  • Local information, leaflets, free maps
  • Post cards, prints and posters - available for purchase.
  • Log fire (wood burning stove)
  • Telephone (landline)

Garden/Outdoors

A beautiful and peaceful private garden awaits you, featuring two private suntrap terraces, lawn, benches, grapevines and roses. Beyond the old stone wall and raised terrace at the end of the garden lie the stunning grounds of Glastonbury Abbey. There is a log shed: logs are available for purchase during autumn and winter.

The garden is divided into three sections, first the patio by the kitchen and conservatory, then lawns, shrubs, roses, benches, and finally (through the grapevine arch) the third section which backs to the Abbey Grounds - an elevated stone terrace with views into the Abbey grounds.

Elevated terrace

The elevated terrace was built by master craftsmen in July 2010. In winter the views over the Abbey grounds are spectacular. In summer the trees partly obstruct the views (see photo on home page).

Kitchen/Conservatory

The kitchen is so well equipped, we doubt you will find it lacking in anything. Containers and thermos bottle available for your picnics, and a shopping trolley on wheels should you be car-less.

The kitchen/Conservatory includes a dishwasher, washing machine, fan oven, coffee maker, coffee percolator, microwave, electric hand blender and tall fridge/freezer. Standard items include kettle, toaster, iron, hair dryer.
